IFTA / NY HUT Reporting with Breakdown for Exempt Miles (Thruway/Toll Miles)
Dear / TruckingOffice Support Team,
I am the Operations Manager for a fleet that frequently operates in the Northeast region. Currently, for NY HUT (Highway Use Tax) filings and Pennsylvania audits, carriers are required to separate miles traveled on Thruway (toll) systems from miles traveled on non-toll secondary roads.
As you are aware, Thruway miles in New York (such as the I-87 and I-90) are exempt from the HUT tax. Manually calculating these by cross-referencing GPS data with toll maps is extremely time-consuming and prone to human error.
I would like to suggest the following improvements:
- New Category in IFTA Reports: Add a column or filter that automatically identifies "Toll Miles" vs. "Non-Toll Miles", specifically for NY and PA.
- Toll Road Geofencing: Implement GPS recognition to detect when a truck enters and exits Thruway systems (like the NY Mainline) to generate a "ready-to-file" report for the MT-903 form.
This feature would provide immense value to your platform, ensuring that your customers do not overpay taxes and that their reports are 100% accurate for state audits.
Best regards,
Jose Luis Leal
